Ananya leads the lab. Name any antibiotic and she will tell you how it works.

Ananya Rao is Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Deccan Institute of Science, where she leads a group of twenty researchers discovering new antibiotics.

Her group found the first inhibitors of a bacterial transport system once thought undruggable; two of them are now in preclinical development. Before starting her lab she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cambridge, and she received her PhD from the Indian Institute of Science.
