How to build a lab website without coding

You do not need HTML, a developer or a weekend. How researchers can build and maintain a professional lab website with no code, including importing an existing site.

By the Labsite team · · 1 min read

Most researchers would rather spend their time on research than on HTML. The good news is that a professional lab website no longer needs code.

What "no code" should mean for a lab

  • Editing text and images directly, not through files.
  • Adding a person, a paper or a news item like adding a row to a spreadsheet.
  • Changing the whole design without re-entering content.
  • Publishing with one click, on your own domain if you like.

Start from your existing site

If you already have a lab site — on a university page, WordPress or Google Sites — you should not have to copy everything by hand. Labsite's import reads your existing site and fills in your research, people, publications and news.

Ask for changes in plain language

An assistant that understands your site can help: "add our new postdoc", "make the hero image larger", "add an openings section". In Labsite, the AI editor makes the change and shows you exactly what it changed, with version history to undo anything.

Share the editing

Invite lab members and choose which sections each can edit, so students keep their own profiles current and the PI keeps control of the rest.

Ready in an afternoon

Pick a template for your field, import or add your content and publish. Create your lab site with Labsite — no code, no developer.
